Neem Oil

Substance

About

Neem oil is a natural, organic substance derived from the seeds and fruits of the neem tree (Azadirachta indica), native to the Indian subcontinent. It is widely used in organic gardening as a pesticide, fungicide, and miticide. Neem oil effectively controls a variety of pests, including aphids, spider mites, whiteflies, and Japanese beetles, by disrupting their life cycles and preventing feeding. It acts as a repellent and can kill certain pests by suffocation. Neem oil is also beneficial for managing fungal diseases like powdery mildew and rust. It is generally safe for humans and most wildlife but should be used with caution to avoid harming beneficial insects. Neem oil is applied by mixing it with water and a mild detergent, then spraying it on plant surfaces. It is best applied in the morning or evening to avoid leaf burn from sunlight. Regular application every seven to fourteen days is recommended for optimal pest control.
