About

Oktoberfest is the world's largest beer festival, held annually in Munich, Germany. It began in 1810 as a celebration of the marriage between Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese, and has since evolved into a 16- to 18-day event attracting millions of visitors. The festival takes place on the Theresienwiese, a large meadow named after the princess. Oktoberfest features traditional German food, including sausages and sauerkraut, alongside a variety of entertainment such as music and amusement rides. The festival is renowned for its traditional Oktoberfest beer, brewed by six local Munich breweries. The event starts with a ceremonial tapping of the first keg by the Lord Mayor of Munich, signaling the beginning of beer service. Oktoberfest also includes parades, folk music, and traditional Bavarian costumes. Despite its festive nature, the event has faced challenges, including a tragic terrorist attack in 1980. The festival remains a significant cultural event, celebrating community and tradition while offering a vibrant atmosphere for all attendees.
