Pakistan's 10 Billion Trees Tsunami

Project

About

Pakistan's 10 Billion Trees Tsunami is a monumental afforestation project aimed at restoring natural spaces and mitigating disasters through massive reforestation efforts. Launched in 2018, it builds upon the success of the Billion Tree Tsunami in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The project involves both tree planting and assisted natural regeneration across the country, targeting 10 billion trees. It aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and supports the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The project not only enhances environmental resilience but also generates economic benefits by creating green jobs. It has already created over 879,000 jobs, including roles for women and youth. The initiative promotes eco-tourism, conserves wildlife, and improves watershed management. International organizations like the IUCN, FAO, and WWF are involved in monitoring and evaluating its progress. Despite challenges, the project is seen as a model for large-scale ecosystem restoration and sustainable development.
