Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón is the current Prime Minister of Spain, assuming office on June 2, 2018. Born on February 29, 1972, in Madrid, he is a prominent figure in Spanish politics. Sánchez holds a Doctorate in Economics and has been the Secretary-General of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) since 2017. His political career began with roles in the Madrid City Council and the Congress of Deputies. He became a key figure in Spanish politics, serving as Leader of the Opposition before his appointment as Prime Minister. Sánchez's tenure has been marked by significant political events, including the formation of coalition governments. He was reappointed for a third term in November 2023. Additionally, he became President of the Socialist International in November 2022. Sánchez is married to Begoña Gómez and has two children. His educational background includes a degree in Economic Science and Business Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid, as well as postgraduate studies in EU Economics and European Economic Integration. Before entering politics full-time, he worked as an advisor at the European Parliament and with the UN in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
