Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is a 2003 American fantasy swashbuckler film directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The film is based on the Pirates of the Caribbean theme park attraction at Disneyland and stars Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, a charismatic and eccentric pirate who is on a quest to reclaim his ship, the Black Pearl. The film also features Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann, the daughter of the governor of Port Royal, and Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, a blacksmith's apprentice who becomes embroiled in the pirates' adventures. The film's plot follows Will and Elizabeth as they become entangled in a quest to break a curse that has turned the crew of the Black Pearl into undead skeletons. Along the way, they encounter a host of colorful characters, including the infamous Captain Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush, and the treacherous Davy Jones, played by Bill Nighy.
