Person

Pol Pot was a Cambodian politician who served as the leader of the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1979. Born in 1925, he was a key figure in the country's history, and his actions had a profound impact on the lives of millions of people. Pot was a charismatic leader who rose to power through his ability to inspire and mobilize the masses. He was a skilled orator and a shrewd politician who was able to manipulate the system to his advantage. Under his leadership, the Khmer Rouge implemented radical social and economic policies that aimed to create a self-sufficient agrarian society. He abolished money, closed schools and hospitals, and forced people to work in labor camps. The regime was responsible for the deaths of an estimated 1.7 to 2.2 million people, out of a population of approximately 8 million, due to executions, forced labor, and starvation. The regime's brutal policies and atrocities committed during his rule remain a stain on Cambodian history, and Pol Pot's legacy is widely regarded as one of the darkest periods in the country's past.
