Project Blue Book

Historical project

About

Project Blue Book was a U.S. Air Force program that investigated UFO sightings from 1952 to 1969. It was the successor to Projects Sign and Grudge, which began in 1947. The project aimed to determine if UFOs posed a threat to national security and to scientifically analyze UFO-related data. It collected over 12,618 reports, with 701 remaining unclassified. Project Blue Book was headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. It used standardized questionnaires to gather detailed information about sightings. Most reports were explained as natural phenomena or misidentified aircraft. The project concluded with no evidence of extraterrestrial origin or threats to national security. Its records are now housed at the National Archives, providing a comprehensive historical view of the era's UFO investigations.
