About

Queen Victoria was a pivotal figure in British history, reigning as the monarch of the United Kingdom from 1837 until her death in 1901. Born on May 24, 1819, at Kensington Palace, she ascended to the throne at the age of 18 following the death of her uncle, King William IV. Her reign, known as the Victorian Era, was marked by significant industrial, cultural, and political changes. Victoria played a crucial role in maintaining the stability and prosperity of the United Kingdom, while also expanding its territorial reach across continents. Victoria married Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1840, and they had nine children who married into European royal families, earning her the title "Grandmother of Europe." After Albert's death in 1861, Victoria entered a period of mourning but later regained popularity. She was granted the title of Empress of India in 1876 and celebrated her Golden and Diamond jubilees in 1887 and 1897, respectively. Her reign was also marked by several assassination attempts and significant reforms in education, labor, and public health. Victoria died on January 22, 1901, at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most influential British monarchs.
