
Ørnevegen (Eagles Road)
LocationØrnevegen, or "The Eagle Road," is a steep and twisty stretch of Road 63 in Norway, connecting Geiranger to Eidsdal. It was officially opened on September 15, 1955, providing year-round access to Geiranger. The road features eleven hairpin bends, offering breathtaking views of the Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The steepest section has a one in ten incline, making it a challenging drive, especially in winter. The highlight of Ørnevegen is the Ørnesvingen viewpoint, located at 620 meters above sea level. It offers panoramic views of Geirangerfjord, the Seven Sisters Falls, and surrounding mountains. The road is popular for its scenic beauty and is often used as a test site for vehicles in winter conditions. Visitors can enjoy stunning vistas, lush greenery, and picturesque waterfalls along the route. The best times to visit are during sunrise or sunset for optimal photography conditions.
