Rocky Marciano, born Rocco Francis Marchegiano on September 1, 1923, in Brockton, Massachusetts, was a renowned American professional boxer. He is celebrated as the only heavyweight champion to retire undefeated, boasting a remarkable record of 49 wins without a loss. Marciano's career spanned from 1947 to 1955, during which he held the world heavyweight championship from 1952 to 1956. His powerful punching and relentless fighting style earned him the nickname "The Brockton Blockbuster." Marciano's boxing legacy includes six successful title defenses against notable opponents like Jersey Joe Walcott, Ezzard Charles, and Archie Moore. His determination and stamina were instrumental in his victories. Before boxing, Marciano served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He tragically died in a plane crash on August 31, 1969, at the age of 45. Marciano's career remains a testament to his unyielding spirit and enduring impact on the sport of boxing.
