LocationAbout
Rowley Shoals is a group of three coral atolls located approximately 260 km west of Broome, off the northwestern coast of Australia. These atolls, named Mermaid, Clerke, and Imperieuse, are part of the Rowley Shoals Marine Park and are renowned for their pristine coral reefs and diverse marine life. The area is characterized by its remote location and is often described as an "aquarium in the middle of the ocean," hosting over 233 species of coral and 688 species of fish. The atolls rise steeply from the surrounding ocean floor, creating dramatic underwater landscapes. The area is popular for diving and snorkeling due to its clear waters and abundant marine life, including giant clams, dolphins, whales, and oversized turtles. Access is typically via charter boat from Broome, with trips often lasting several days. The isolation of Rowley Shoals has helped preserve its ecosystem, making it a unique and valuable ecological site.
