About

The Rubber Plant, scientifically known as Ficus elastica, is a versatile and popular houseplant renowned for its large, dark green, glossy leaves. Native to Southeast Asia, it can grow into a tall tree in its natural habitat, reaching heights of up to 100 feet. However, when cultivated indoors, it is typically kept much smaller, ranging from 2 to 10 feet tall with proper pruning and support. The plant's leaves are prized for their beauty and can grow up to 17 inches long and 6 inches wide. Various cultivars offer different leaf colors, including variegated patterns of green, cream, and pink. Rubber Plants are relatively easy to care for, preferring bright indirect light and well-drained soil. They thrive in temperatures above 55°F and should be watered sparingly, allowing the top inch of soil to dry before watering again. Regular pruning is essential to maintain a bushy shape or encourage a more tree-like form. The plant's stems are strong and upright, with new leaves emerging from colorful sheaths. It is a low-maintenance option for modern spaces, adding a touch of natural elegance with its stunning foliage. Despite its adaptability, it does not tolerate drafts or cold temperatures well.
