Sam Esmail is an Egyptian-American screenwriter, film and television director, and producer. Born on September 17, 1977, in Hoboken, New Jersey, he is best known for creating the critically acclaimed series Mr. Robot. Esmail graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and later earned an MFA from the American Film Institute. His early career involved working as a post-production supervisor and writing screenplays, including Sequels, Remakes & Adaptations, which landed on the Black List in 2008. Esmail's directorial debut was Comet in 2014. He is also known for his work on Homecoming and Leave the World Behind. His productions often explore themes of alienation, technology, and American society. Esmail is married to actress Emmy Rossum and has two children. His work on Mr. Robot earned numerous awards, including Golden Globes and Primetime Emmy nominations. Esmail continues to produce and direct various projects through his company, Esmail Corp.
