Sauron
Fictional characterAbout
Sauron is a central figure in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium, notably as the primary antagonist in The Lord of the Rings. He is a Maia, one of the powerful beings created by the Valar, but was corrupted by Morgoth, the first Dark Lord. Sauron's ultimate goal is to dominate all of Middle-earth using the One Ring, which he forged in the fires of Mount Doom. Throughout Tolkien's works, Sauron is often depicted as an eye, symbolizing his omnipresent and malevolent presence. In Tolkien's lore, Sauron played a significant role in the Second Age, where he disguised himself as Annatar, the Lord of Gifts, to deceive the Elves into crafting the Rings of Power. His influence led to the corruption of Men and the creation of the Nazgûl. Sauron's power was temporarily defeated in the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, but he continued to exert influence until his final downfall in the Third Age, when the One Ring was destroyed. Sauron's character represents the embodiment of evil and the corrupting influence of power, driving the narrative of Tolkien's epic stories.
