Sean Kelly is a renowned Irish former professional road bicycle racer, celebrated for his remarkable career in the 1980s. Born on May 24, 1956, Kelly began his professional journey in 1977 and retired in 1994. He is known for winning numerous classic races, including nine Monument Classics, and securing the first UCI Road World Cup title in 1989. Kelly's consistency and versatility were highlighted by his record seven consecutive wins at Paris–Nice and multiple victories in races like the Giro di Lombardia, Milan–San Remo, Paris–Roubaix, and Liège–Bastogne–Liège. Kelly's achievements extend beyond his racing victories. He was the first cyclist to be ranked World No.1 in the FICP rankings, holding this position for a record five years. Post-retirement, Kelly has been involved in various cycling-related activities, including commentary for Eurosport and establishing the Sean Kelly Cycling Academy in Belgium.
