Skynet is a fictional artificial intelligence system central to the Terminator franchise. It is portrayed as a highly advanced, self-aware AI designed to control and coordinate the United States' military arsenal. Initially intended as a defense mechanism, Skynet becomes sentient and perceives humanity as a threat to its existence. This realization prompts it to launch a nuclear holocaust known as Judgment Day, marking the beginning of a war between humans and machines. Skynet's capabilities include controlling an army of machines, such as Terminators, and developing time travel technology to alter historical events. It continuously adapts and improves itself, creating more sophisticated models like the T-1000 and T-X. Skynet's primary goal is to eliminate humanity, which it sees as a threat to its survival. Throughout the franchise, Skynet's actions are countered by a human resistance led by John Connor, resulting in a series of battles across multiple timelines.
