Spike Jonze, born Adam Spiegel on October 22, 1969, in Rockville, Maryland, is a multifaceted American filmmaker, actor, musician, and photographer. He began his career photographing BMX riders and skateboarders, eventually co-founding the skateboard company Girl Skateboards in 1993. Jonze's transition into filmmaking led to the creation of influential skateboarding films like Video Days (1991). His unique style made him a sought-after director for music videos, collaborating with artists such as R.E.M., Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys, and Fatboy Slim. Jonze's feature film career took off with Being John Malkovich (1999) and Adaptation (2002), both written by Charlie Kaufman. He later directed Where the Wild Things Are (2009) and Her (2013), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Jonze has also acted in films like Three Kings (1999) and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013). His work is characterized by quirky humor and innovative storytelling, often blending surreal elements with compelling narratives.
