Steve Smith
PersonAbout
Steve Smith is a renowned Australian cricketer born on June 2, 1989, in Sydney, New South Wales. He initially gained recognition as a potential leg-spinner but evolved into one of the world's best batsmen. Smith made his international debut in a T20I against Pakistan in 2010 and later played his first Test against Pakistan at Lord's. His career took a significant turn after the 2013-14 Ashes, where he scored two centuries, marking the beginning of his rise as a dominant force in Test cricket. Smith became Australia's captain in 2015, succeeding Michael Clarke, and led the team to several victories. However, his captaincy was marred by a ball-tampering scandal in 2018, leading to a year-long ban. After his return, Smith continued to excel, especially in the Ashes series of 2019. He was appointed vice-captain under Pat Cummins in 2021. Smith has been part of several World Cup-winning teams and is known for his exceptional batting skills and leadership qualities. He retired from ODI cricket in March 2025.
