Tadej Pogačar is a Slovenian professional road racing cyclist born on September 21, 1998, in Komenda, Slovenia. He began his cycling career at a young age, joining the Rog Ljubljana cycling club in 2007. Pogačar's professional career took off when he signed with UAE Team Emirates in 2018. In 2019, he became the youngest cyclist to win a UCI World Tour race at the Tour of California. His breakthrough in major tours came with a third-place finish at the Vuelta a España, where he won three stages and was named the best young rider. Pogačar's achievements include winning the Tour de France three times (2020, 2021, and 2024) and the Giro d'Italia in 2024, becoming the first rider to achieve the Giro-Tour double since 1998. He has also won several one-day classics, including Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Tour of Flanders. Pogačar is known for his versatility, excelling in both grand tours and one-day races. His dedication and natural talent have made him one of the most successful cyclists in recent history, earning comparisons to cycling legends like Eddy Merckx.
