"The Death of Eric Cartman" is the sixth episode of the ninth season of South Park, airing on April 13, 2005. The episode begins with Cartman eating all the chicken skin from a Kentucky Fried Chicken order, prompting his friends to ignore him. Believing he is dead and a ghost, Cartman enlists Butters' help to make amends for his past wrongdoings. Butters, unaware of the plan to ignore Cartman, is convinced that Cartman's ghost is haunting him. As Cartman attempts to atone for his sins, he and Butters send gift baskets to those he has wronged, including Sally Struthers and Scott Tenorman. However, these efforts fail to bring Cartman peace. Eventually, Cartman decides to help resolve a hostage situation at the local Red Cross, which he believes is the key to moving on. The episode ends with Cartman's friends deciding to stop ignoring him after his heroic actions, leaving Cartman humiliated and vowing revenge against Butters.
