This collective consciousness can evolve into a Gravemind, a self-aware entity that strategically commands all Flood forms. The Forerunners created the Halo Array to contain the Flood by eliminating all potential hosts, thereby starving them. The Flood's presence is a central plot element in the Halo series, highlighting their role as a formidable and relentless threat to life in the galaxy.
