The Great Dahar Crossing is a 194 km hiking trail located in Tunisia's remote Dahar region. It spans across diverse landscapes, including stony 'hamada' desert and ochre-coloured peaks. The trail passes through small Amazigh villages, surrounded by date palms and olive groves, as well as ancient fortified granaries known as ksours. Hikers can explore historic sites like fossilized dinosaur footprints and prehistoric rock paintings. The trail offers a unique cultural experience, allowing hikers to learn about the Amazigh people and their traditions. It is divided into 12 stages, each offering a distinct view of the region's natural beauty and historical significance. Hikers can climb Kaf Ensoura, the highest mountain in the region, for panoramic views. The trail concludes in the troglodyte town of Douiret, known for its ancient cave dwellings. Guided tours are recommended to navigate the trail and appreciate its cultural and geological richness.
