The Music City Miracle
Football playAbout
The Music City Miracle is a pivotal play in NFL history, occurring on January 8, 2000, during an AFC Wild Card game between the Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills. The play unfolded when Bills kicker Steve Christie kicked off to Titans fullback Lorenzo Neal with 16 seconds remaining. Neal handed the ball to tight end Frank Wycheck, who threw a lateral pass across the field to wide receiver Kevin Dyson. Dyson then sprinted 75 yards to score the winning touchdown, securing a 22-16 victory for the Titans. This play became iconic due to its unexpected nature and its impact on the game. The Titans trailed by a point before the kickoff return, and the sudden turnaround sparked a run to Super Bowl XXXIV. The play remains controversial due to the lateral pass, which some argued was a forward pass. However, the ruling on the field stood, and the play has since been recognized as one of the greatest in NFL history, ranking No. 4 in the "NFL 100 Greatest" plays. It cemented the Titans' place in NFL lore and is still celebrated today.
