About

The Original Pantry Cafe, located in downtown Los Angeles, was a renowned 24/7 diner famous for its classic American comfort food. Established in 1924 by Dewey Logan, it moved to its iconic location at 9th and Figueroa in 1950. The restaurant was known for its continuous operation, claiming to never have closed since its inception. It served a diverse clientele, including celebrities and politicians, and was owned by former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan. The Pantry offered a wide range of traditional dishes, including large portions of pancakes, eggs, and steaks. It was celebrated for its bustling atmosphere and historical significance, being designated as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. The restaurant's tradition of serving free coffee ended in 2011, but it continued to attract thousands of customers weekly. Despite its long history, The Original Pantry Cafe closed on March 2, 2025, after 101 years of operation.
