The Shadows are an ancient and powerful alien species in the Babylon 5 universe. They are arachnid-like in appearance and are among the oldest sentient beings, known as the First Ones. Their philosophy revolves around the idea that chaos and conflict are necessary for growth and evolution, often leading them to manipulate and sow discord among other races. This philosophy places them in opposition to the Vorlons, who represent order. The Shadows possess advanced technology and telepathic abilities, allowing them to remain invisible and control their surroundings. They have a long history of war with the Vorlons and have been involved in numerous conflicts throughout the galaxy. Despite their formidable power, they were eventually forced to leave the galaxy by the younger races. The Shadows' legacy continues through their advanced technology and the influence they exerted on other species, particularly the Drakh, who serve as their servants.
