Born on October 18, 1958, in Memphis, Tennessee, Hearns began boxing at the age of 11 and quickly made a name for himself in the amateur circuit, winning the 1972 National Golden Gloves championship. He turned professional in 1977 and went on to compile an impressive record of 61 wins, 5 losses, and 48 knockouts. Throughout his illustrious career, Hearns faced some of the greatest boxers of all time, including Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, and Roberto Durán. He is perhaps best known for his epic battles with Leonard, with whom he had three legendary fights, including the 1981 "Showdown" at the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Hearns' aggressive fighting style, which earned him the nickname "The Hitman," made him a fan favorite, and his impressive skills in the ring have cemented his place as one of the all-time greats in the sport of boxing.
