Transcendental Meditation
ConceptAbout
Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a specific form of meditation developed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It involves the silent repetition of a mantra for 15-20 minutes, twice daily, to achieve a state of relaxed awareness and reduced mental boundaries. TM is based on Hindu Vedic traditions but is presented as a non-religious practice. It has been widely studied for its health benefits, including reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. TM has been shown to effectively reduce symptoms of PTSD and depression. It promotes a state of restful alertness, often described as a "fourth state of consciousness." By reducing cortisol levels and improving sleep, TM can enhance overall mental well-being. While it is not a replacement for medical treatment, TM can be a valuable adjunct to conventional therapies, offering a simple yet effective tool for managing stress and improving quality of life.
