About

The Traverse Wind Energy Center is a significant onshore wind power generation project located in north-central Oklahoma, specifically in the counties of Blaine and Custer. It is the largest wind farm built in a single phase in North America, with a capacity of 998 megawatts. Developed by Invenergy and owned by American Electric Power (AEP) through its subsidiaries Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) and Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO), the project became operational in March 2022. The Traverse Wind Energy Center features 356 General Electric (GE) wind turbines, each capable of varying power outputs. It is part of the 1.48-gigawatt North Central Energy Facilities, which also includes the Sundance and Maverick wind farms. The facility generates enough electricity to power approximately 300,000 households annually. The project contributes significantly to the local economy and supports renewable energy goals by providing clean energy to customers in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
