About

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is Greece's oldest and most respected institution of higher learning, established in 1837. It is not only the first university in Greece but also in the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean region. The university has a rich history, initially named the Othonian University after King Otto of Greece. It began with four faculties: Theology, Law, Medicine, and Arts, and has since expanded to include a wide range of disciplines. Today, the university is the largest state institution of higher education in Greece, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various fields, including sciences, humanities, law, and economics. It operates across three campuses and is known for its academic excellence and contributions to Greek society. The university's historical main building houses important central services and serves as a site for cultural and political activities. It continues to play a significant role in intellectual and cultural development in Greece.
