Vineyard Wind I
Infrastructure projectAbout
Vineyard Wind I is the first large-scale offshore wind project in the United States, located approximately 15 miles south of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. It is a collaborative effort between Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, with a total capacity of 806 megawatts. The project aims to generate enough clean energy to power over 400,000 homes and businesses across Massachusetts. It utilizes 62 General Electric Haliade-X turbines, each capable of producing 13 megawatts of electricity. The project marks a significant milestone in the U.S. renewable energy sector, creating substantial economic and environmental benefits. It is expected to create 3,600 full-time equivalent job years and reduce carbon emissions by more than 1.6 million metric tons annually. Vineyard Wind I has received significant investments and support, including a $3 billion investment and a unique tax equity package. The project began delivering power to the grid in early 2024, signaling a new era in U.S. offshore wind energy production.
