Wayne Shorter is a renowned American jazz saxophonist and composer. Born in Newark, New Jersey, he began his musical journey playing the clarinet before transitioning to the saxophone. Shorter's career flourished when he joined Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in 1959, where he developed his unique compositional style. He later became a key member of Miles Davis's Second Great Quintet from 1964 to 1970, contributing significant compositions like "Nefertiti" and "ESP." Shorter co-founded the influential jazz fusion band Weather Report in 1970 with Joe Zawinul. His work with Weather Report and as a solo artist has left a lasting impact on jazz. Shorter is celebrated for his versatility, blending elements of jazz, rock, and world music.
