After Dior's death in 1957, Saint Laurent became the head designer of the House of Dior, a position he held until 1960. In 1962, Saint Laurent founded his own fashion house, Yves Saint Laurent, which quickly became synonymous with modernity, elegance, and sophistication. Throughout his career, Saint Laurent was known for his innovative and provocative designs, which often blurred the lines between fashion and art. He is credited with popularizing ready-to-wear fashion, introducing the beatnik look, and creating the iconic Le Smoking tuxedo suit for women. Saint Laurent's designs were worn by some of the most stylish and glamorous women of the 20th century, including Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Catherine Deneuve, and Paloma Picasso.
