What happens when you combine the best of Western role-playing with the essence of the classic Japanese JRPG, with its turn-based combat? The result is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and not only does it combine the best of both worlds, but despite being the debut of its creators, it's made from the same fabric as the great sagas.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is almost like the tale of Peter and the Wolf. We don't just want to believe we'll play it this year, but that it will surpass the first game. Given the expectations generated, it should set a new standard for Metroidvanias.

The most brutal game of the year, but also the return of a cult saga to its roots. Doom: The Dark Ages leaves science fiction aside to unapologetically embrace the barbarity of dark fantasy. So much so, that they've abandoned multiplayer to intensify the excitement and explosiveness of each game.

We have many games that explore the charm of feudal Japan. Perhaps too many. But what Ghost of Tsushima achieved was absolutely unprecedented. It is, for all intents and purposes, a very high bar that its sequel, set two centuries later, we are confident will match.

Rare, very rare is the year in which FromSoftware isn't nominated for Game of the Year... If not win it! In this sense, Elden Ring Nightreign isn't a sequel, but rather a well-calculated experiment that seeks to bring what we liked most about its best game (to date) to a cooperative experience. A winning combination.
