Ferrari 250 GT California Spider
VehicleAbout
The Ferrari 250 GT California Spider is an iconic convertible sports car produced from 1957 to 1963. Designed by Sergio Scaglietti, it was built by Carrozzeria Scaglietti in Modena, Italy. This model was created specifically for the American market, particularly California, due to the influence of U.S. distributors like Luigi Chinetti and Jon von Neumann. The California Spider is a convertible version of the Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta, featuring a 3.0 L V12 engine and a four-speed manual transmission. The California Spider was produced in two main versions: the long wheelbase (LWB) from 1957 to 1960 and the short wheelbase (SWB) from 1960 to 1963. The SWB models offered improved handling and disc brakes. With only 106 units produced, the California Spider is highly sought after for its elegant design and performance. It gained further fame after appearing in the 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The car's rarity and historical significance have led to high auction prices, making it a prized collector's item.
