Laos, officially known as the Lao People's Democratic Republic, is a landlocked country in Southeast Asia. It is bordered by China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar. The capital, Vientiane, is located on the Mekong River. Laos has a diverse landscape with forested mountains, plateaus, and lowland plains, supporting a population of over 7.7 million people. The country has a rich cultural heritage, with Theravada Buddhism being the dominant religion. Its history includes the ancient Lan Xang kingdom and periods under French and Japanese rule. Laos is known for its subsistence agriculture, with rice being a major crop. The economy is gradually developing, with growth in tourism and infrastructure projects. Despite being one of the least technologically advanced countries in Southeast Asia, Laos is improving its digital infrastructure. It faces challenges such as limited internet access and a need for more digital skills. However, the government is working to enhance its digital ecosystem through various initiatives.
