CountryAbout
Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory located in the Eastern Caribbean, part of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles. It is situated between Antigua to the northeast and Guadeloupe to the southeast. The island covers approximately 102 square kilometers and has a population of about 4,300 residents. Montserrat is known for its volcanic landscape, particularly the Soufrière Hills volcano, which erupted in 1995, rendering a significant portion of the island uninhabitable. The island's geography features mountainous interiors and smooth sandy beaches on the western side. Montserrat is often referred to as "The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean" due to its lush environment and Irish heritage. The economy is primarily based on tourism and export of aggregates. The island is focusing on sustainable development, particularly in ecotourism, and is enhancing its infrastructure to attract more visitors and investments. Despite its small size, Montserrat offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness.
