While current symmetric encryption methods are relatively secure, post-quantum cryptography focuses on public-key algorithms. The transition to quantum-safe methods is crucial to protect data from future quantum threats, particularly the "harvest now, decrypt later" scenario, where data could be decrypted once quantum computing advances.
