About

Queen Victoria was the monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 1837 until her death in 1901. Born on May 24, 1819, at Kensington Palace, she ascended to the throne at the age of 18. Her reign, known as the Victorian era, was marked by significant industrial, political, and social changes. Victoria was married to Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, with whom she had nine children. Her family ties extended across Europe, earning her the title "Grandmother of Europe." Victoria's reign saw the expansion of the British Empire, with her being proclaimed Empress of India in 1876. She played a role in shaping the modern monarchy, focusing on ceremonial duties. Despite her influence, her personal life was marked by periods of mourning and withdrawal from public life after Prince Albert's death. Victoria's legacy is complex, reflecting both the growth of the Empire and the transformation of the British monarchy into its current form. She died on January 22, 1901, at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.
