The Isley Brothers The Isley Brothers are an American musical group whose repertoire spans R&B, soul, funk, and rock. Formed in Cincinnati, Ohio, the group initially consisted of brothers O'Kelly Jr., Ronald, Vernon, and Rudolph Isley. They began their musical journey performing gospel in churches. After a hiatus following the death of Vernon in 1955, the group reformed in New York City in 1958. They achieved their first Top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Twist and Shout" in 1962, a song that would later be famously covered by The Beatles. The Isley Brothers have had a lasting influence on popular music.
