Navdanya Movement

Environmental movement

About

Navdanya is an Indian-based environmental movement founded by Dr. Vandana Shiva in 1987. It focuses on promoting biodiversity conservation, organic farming, and the rights of farmers. The movement aims to protect nature and people's rights to knowledge, biodiversity, water, and food. Navdanya has been instrumental in setting up community seed banks across India, training farmers in sustainable agriculture, and advocating against genetic engineering and biopiracy. Navdanya's efforts include promoting agroecological practices, supporting small farmers, and conserving traditional crop varieties. It has successfully challenged patents on indigenous crops like neem and basmati rice. The movement also runs educational programs through its Earth University, promoting ecological farming and food sovereignty. Navdanya's work aligns with a broader vision of Earth Democracy, emphasizing harmony between humans and nature.
