Tuvalu
CountryAbout
Tuvalu is a small island nation located in the west-central Pacific Ocean, comprising nine coral atolls and islands. The country gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1978 and is a constitutional monarchy with King Charles III as its head of state. Tuvalu's capital is Funafuti, where most government offices are situated. The population is predominantly Polynesian, with Tuvaluan closely related to Samoan. The economy relies heavily on fishing licenses, remittances, and the sale of stamps, as well as development aid. Tuvalu faces significant challenges due to its low elevation, with most areas only a few meters above sea level. This makes it highly vulnerable to climate change, particularly rising sea levels and severe weather events. Despite these challenges, Tuvalu plays an active role in global climate discussions. The country's unique cultural heritage and traditional lifestyle are still prevalent, with a strong emphasis on community and traditional practices. However, modernization and climate change threaten this delicate balance, making Tuvalu a symbol of the urgent need for global action on climate issues.
