Gibson ex-Huberman Stradivarius
Musical instrumentAbout
The Gibson ex-Huberman Stradivarius is a 1713 violin crafted by Antonio Stradivari during his Golden Era. This instrument has a storied past, having been stolen twice from its previous owner, Bronisław Huberman. The first theft occurred in 1919 in Vienna, but it was quickly recovered. However, the second theft in 1936 at Carnegie Hall led to a nearly 50-year disappearance. The violin was recovered in 1985 after a deathbed confession by Julian Altman, who had allegedly purchased it for $100. Currently owned by Joshua Bell, the Gibson ex-Huberman Stradivarius is renowned for its rich history and exceptional craftsmanship. It features a broad, strong-arched back with beautifully flamed maple and a deep red varnish. Bell acquired the violin in 2001, ensuring it remains an active part of musical performances rather than being confined to a collection. The instrument's value has significantly increased over the years, reflecting its historical and cultural significance.
