Ocean Cleanup Project
ProjectAbout
The Ocean Cleanup Project is a non-profit initiative dedicated to removing plastic waste from the world's oceans, with a significant focus on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. This endeavor involves developing and scaling technologies to address the immense problem of ocean plastic pollution. The project employs a dual strategy: intercepting plastic in rivers to prevent further pollution and cleaning up existing plastic in the oceans. The Ocean Cleanup aims to remove 90% of floating ocean plastic by 2040. The project uses innovative systems like floating barriers to concentrate and collect plastic debris. These systems are designed to capture plastics ranging from small pieces to large debris. Additionally, The Ocean Cleanup deploys Interceptors in rivers globally to tackle the source of pollution. The organization collaborates with various partners to support its mission and has already removed millions of kilograms of plastic. Its work aligns with global efforts to reduce marine pollution and protect marine ecosystems.
