The Ocean Cleanup Project

Project

About

The Ocean Cleanup Project is a non-profit initiative dedicated to removing plastic from the world's oceans. Founded by Boyan Slat, it aims to reduce floating ocean plastic by 90% by 2040. The project employs a dual strategy: intercepting plastic in rivers to prevent further pollution and cleaning up existing plastic in the ocean. Technologies include floating barriers and river interceptors, designed to efficiently collect plastic waste. The project has made significant progress, removing millions of kilograms of plastic from rivers and oceans. Notable achievements include the deployment of System 002, which has successfully removed large amounts of plastic from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. The Ocean Cleanup collaborates with governments, corporations, and individuals to tackle the world's most polluted rivers. By addressing both the source and existing pollution, the project works towards a cleaner ocean future.
