About

Ess-a-Bagel is an iconic New York City bagel shop, established in 1976 by Florence and Gene Wilpon, along with Florence's brother Aaron Wenzelberg. The family, originating from an Austrian baking tradition, opened their first store on 1st Avenue in the Gramercy section of Manhattan. Within two years, their hand-rolled bagels were voted the best in the Tri-State area, reflecting their commitment to traditional baking methods. Today, Ess-a-Bagel operates multiple locations across New York City, including a recent expansion to Brooklyn and a new factory in Harlem. The Harlem facility significantly boosts production capacity, enabling Ess-a-Bagel to meet growing national demand. Known for its diverse offerings, including a variety of bagels, cream cheeses, and pastries, Ess-a-Bagel remains a family-run business, dedicated to preserving its heritage while expanding its reach.
